Romney Rules at Roast

Mitt Romney and Barack Obama both spoke at the 67th Annual Alfred E. Smith Memorial Foundation Dinner on Wednesday (10/17/12) night in New York City. According to Wikipedia:
The Alfred E. Smith Memorial Foundation Dinner is an annual white tie charity fundraiser for Catholic charities, held at the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel in New York on the third Thursday of October. It is organized by the Alfred E. Smith Memorial Foundation in honor of former New York Governor Al Smith, the first Catholic presidential candidate. The first dinner was in 1945, the year after Al Smith's death. The 2008 dinner raised $3.9 million.
Since 1960 (when Richard Nixon and John F. Kennedy were speakers), it has been a stop for the two main presidential candidates during several U.S. election years. In 1976, Gerald Ford and Jimmy Carter spoke; in 1980, Carter and Ronald Reagan; in 1988, Michael Dukakis and George H.W. Bush; in 2000, Al Gore and George W. Bush; in 2008, John McCain and Barack Obama; and in 2012, Barack Obama and Mitt Romney. Since 1945, only two presidents have not spoken at the dinner: Harry Truman and Bill Clinton. Candidates have traditionally given humorous speeches poking fun at themselves and their opponents, making the event similar to a roast. It is generally the last event at which the two candidates share a stage before the election.
This year the candidates, Barack Obama and Mitt Romney, both spoke at the dinner. This will not be their last on-stage shared event, however, as they are scheduled for one final presidential debate on Monday, October 22, just 6 nights after the one held this past Tuesday night.

Although Obama made some humorous remarks, Mitt Romney stole the show.

The following excerpts are of some of the jokes he told.
Romney: A campaign can require a lot of wardrobe changes, ... but it's nice to relax and finally wear what Ann and I wear around the house.
Romney: I was hoping that President Obama would bring Joe Biden along, because he'll laugh at anything. (Cheshire Joe)

Romney: We were chatting pleasantly this evening as if Tuesday didn't happen.

Romney: Usually when I get invited to gatherings like this, it's just to be the designated driver.

Romney: We're down to the final months of the president's term.

Romney: I have my beautiful wife Ann, he has Bill Clinton.

Romney, referring to St. Peter, says skeptics will say "if you've got a Church, you didn't build that."

Romney says Obama's new campaign slogan is "you're better off than you were four weeks ago."

Romney: The president's remarks tonight are brought to you by the letter O and the number 16 trillion.

Romney says headlines will say "polls show Obama leading from behind."

Paul Ryan Girl Outclasses Obama Girl

Let's get fiscal! Let's talk numbers and reality. The Old "Obama Girl" has been replaced by the New "Paul Ryan Girl." Ryan is years younger than Obama. Check out this parody of the Olivia Newton-John video, "Let's Get Physical."

It's time for us to put up a fight and stop letting Obama use smoke and mirrors to win the youth vote. Getting Fiscal is what it is all about!

Bully Biden Loses Debate to Ryan Despite Cheshire Smirk

[NOTE: I originally wrote this blog post on Friday, 10/12/12, and posted it. Then I went back in to edit a typo and technical difficulties resulted in the post being erased. So, although I tried to recreate it, this is a different version than the original unrecoverable posting.]

Top: Obama and Biden
Bottom: Romney and Ryan

On Thursday night, October 11, 2012, I watched the one and only Vice-Presidential debate on C-Span. I did not want to hear pundits spin things before, during or immediately after the event. It took place in Danville, Kentucky, home to Centre College and bluegrass.

The two participants, Democrat Joe Biden and Republican Paul Ryan had enormous pressure on them, as each tried to make the case his "number one." Biden was trying to make up for what Obama lacked in his first debate appearance against Romney. Ryan on the other hand was trying to maintain the momentum that Romney had gained in his unanimously-declared victory over Obama the week before.

From the first moments of the debate, it became clear that this would not be like the Presidential debate the previous week. Biden and Ryan were seated rather than standing. And whereas Obama came across as distant and lethargic when he faced off with Romney, Biden was the opposite. He grabbed the bullsh*t by the horns and interjected himself into every phase of the 90-minute process. C-Span, like other networks, showed a split screen throughout the debate, so you could see both the candidate who was speaking as well as the other one waiting his turn. This was the same thing that took place in the first Presidential debate, so it was not a surprise to the candidates or the viewers.

It was this split screen which, much like the Obama-Romney debate the week before, told the story. The substantive part of the debate has been completely overshadowed by Biden's demeanor throughout the debate. It was not really even a debate by debate standards. Instead, it was the Let-me-talk-over-my-'friend'-whenever-I-please Joe Biden show. The moderator, Martha Raddatz of ABC News, let Biden interrupt Ryan 82 times. No, that's not a typo. Biden interrupted 82 times. And Raddatz herself interrupted Ryan 9 times. Raddatz's role as moderator was challenged prior to the debate since Obama attended her first wedding to a Harvard Law School classmate in 1992. Raddatz has also been a guest, reportedly in a professional context, at the home of Joe Biden since he became vice president.

Since 1974 the Vice President residence has been this home on the
grounds of the Naval Observatory in Northwest Washington, DC.

The most distracting thing to me during the debate was Biden's senseless, arrogant laughter at the most inappropriate times. His molar-baring grin covered the lower half of his face much of the time and was creepy, to say the lease. I was reminded of the grinning Cheshire Cat from Alice's Adventures in Wonderland.

Once again the haunting photo from a news story a month or so ago came back to me when Biden was photographed with a creepy, ear-to-ear grin on his face as an unknown biker chick sat on his lap and two rough-looking male bikers sat on either side of them. Biden was like a creepy old mafioso in a movie who smiles and hams it up, puts his arm around the younger guy as if to encourage him, then takes him out the back door to the alley and puts a bullet through his brain. Disturbing, to say the least.

As disturbing and distracting as Biden's physical demeanor and actions were, I have to wonder if he was pumped up on drugs or merely adrenaline. Whatever the reason, and however badly the procedural aspect of the debate was handled, nothing can excuse the substantive lies that Biden told. Two particular lies are so egregious that I have to highlight them.

First, Biden tried to blame both the Iraq war and the Afghanistan war on Paul Ryan. He said that Ryan and other Republicans voted to put two wars on a credit card, and that he himself voted against the wars. The next day the falsity of that statement was made known and that blatant lie by Biden was exposed. He voted FOR both wars while he was in the Senate. According to the Free Beacon:
Vice President Joe Biden accused Rep. Paul Ryan of putting two wars on the “credit card,” and then suggested he voted against the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq.
“By the way, they talk about this great recession like it fell out of the sky–like, ‘Oh my goodness, where did it come from?’” Biden said. “It came from this man voting to put two wars on a credit card, [...].”
“I was there, I voted against them,” Biden continued. “I said, no, we can’t afford that.”
Then Sen. Biden voted for the Afghanistan resolution on Sept. 14, 2001 which authorized “the use of United States Armed Forces against those responsible for the recent attacks launched against the United States.”
And on Oct. 11, 2002, Biden voted for a resolution authorizing unilateral military action in Iraq, according to the Washington Post.
So, Pinocchijoe's nose is growing as much as that of Pinocchiobama.

But Joe did not stop there. The other lie that I must note is that Biden said the HHS mandate will not affect Catholic employers. This lie has been clearly debunked. Here is an excerpt from a Heritage Foundation article:
Vice President Joe Biden explained his view of the mandate, saying:
"With regard to the assault on the Catholic church, let me make it absolutely clear, no religious institution, Catholic or otherwise, including Catholic Social Services, Georgetown Hospital, Mercy Hospital, any hospital, none has to either refer contraception, none has to pay for contraception, none has to be a vehicle to get contraception in any insurance policy they provide. That is a fact."
That is actually false.
The real “fact” about the anti-conscience mandate is that it applies to almost all employers—including many religious organizations such as hospitals and social service providers. It requires them to provide coverage that pays for abortion drugs, contraception, and sterilization regardless of moral or religious objections.
The mandate affords the narrowest religious exemption in federal law, effectively covering only formal houses of worship.
Much has been written in the last year about the HHS mandate and how it will NOT excuse most religious employers from the mandate. Biden is either knowingly lying about the effects, or he is uninformed. Either explanation is inexcusable and reprehensible for the Vice President of the United States, especially when he then sits in front of nearly 50,000,000 and tells untruths with such force and false assurance. It's time for Joe to go to Confession and say, "Mea culpa, mea culpa, mea maxima culpa." But I doubt he would mean it.

We have less than a month to go now before we go to the polls and vote for the future of this country, and the world. Obama and Biden can out whatever spin on their impending loss that they want. The American people hunger for the truth. We hunger for our leaders to stop telling us what they think will get them re-elected so they can continue to line their pockets and those of their benefactors as Biden and Obama have done for the last five years.

So, after the one and only Veep debate, I commend Paul Ryan for maintaining a cool and poised exterior in the face of clownish behavior by a nearly 70 year-old man.

And I renew my tribute to Joe Biden. Obama may yet wish that he had not stood by(den) his man.

Bishop Paprocki Sings Bee Gees' "How Deep Is Your Love" in Homily

This evening I captured on video a small part of a brilliant homily by Bishop Thomas Paprocki. He surprised all of us in attendance with his a capella rendition of the 1970s Bee Gees hit song "How Deep Is your Love" as part of his homily.

Paprocki is Bishop of  the Diocese of Springfield, Illinois. His homily was reflecting on our Baptismal call to serve God, asking -- just how deep IS your love for God? He also pointed out that the root of the word disco is "to learn," and that we are all called to learn about our faith and how much God loves us. I was very impressed that he was brave enough to sing the Bee Gees song for the congregation and that he was able to sing it so well. My hat is off to him.

So, take a moment and ask yourself, "How deep is MY love for God?"

SNL Debate Parody Actually Worth Watching

I am coming to you today from the Windy City. While waiting for my flight, I came across this video and was shocked. It is actually a pretty funny parody that was on Saturday Night Live two nights ago. I never watch SNL, so the only way I see any skits from it is if someone sends it to me or Drudge links to it. This one was worth embedding.

I love the portrayals of Al Sharpton and Chris Matthews. Niely done on S.E. Cupp. The Rachel Maddow imitation was too subtle. By the way, did you ever see this high school photo of Rachel Maddow? Interesting, huh?

Here's hoping the Veep debate this Tursday night gives the SNL crew plenty of Biden gaffes to work into a skit next Saturday. I'll be watching Thursday Night Live!

Kudos to Democrat from NY for Walking off During Jihadist Rants

I just looked outside to see if I could see any pigs flying by. That is what I thought would happen before I would ever have occasion to offer a commendation to a Democrat politician. But I have to do just that -- commend a state Senator in New York. Although this happened several weeks ago, it never made the national news that I am aware of. Here is a video of what happened.

I have to give kudos to Senator Avella for walking offstage in protest. But the big question is: what is he going to do about it now?

Top Ten Obama Supporters I Never Want to Meet

One of the reasons I would never vote for Obama is because I would be associating myself with people like those who think the President should be allowed to a teleprompter at the Presidential debates. Here are the top ten people with whom I would not want to share a common bond as an Obama supporter.

1. Snoop Lion, formerly known as Snoop Doggy Dog, who promoted the Top Ten reasons to not vote for Mitt Romney recently.

In the comments on to Snoop's instagram entry, some people say that Snoop Lion Dog did not make up this list, that he is just promoting it. I saw nothing on the the website where this is posted to confirm that he did not write it. And even if he did not, he is giving status to someone else's racism. When Obama reads a speech written by his speech writer's he makes it his own. So Snoop gets ownership credit since he is the celebrity who circulated the list. He did not denounce it or preface his promotion of it with any sort of statement that he disagrees with it. So he owns it, and it is his.

NOTE: I admit that he has at least one truth in the Obama column. <wink wink>

2. The ladies on The View. These women have no self-respect. They drool over Obama and demean women everywhere by their shameless pandering to him. I no longer even excuse Elizabeth Hasselbeck. She stays on the show, so she must find it fulfilling and rewarding to be with the fawners.

3.  Sandra Fluke, Kathleen Sebelius, Nancy Pelosi, Barbara Boxer, Debbie Wasserman-Schultz, Caroline Kennedy, Simone Campbell, and the national chairpersons of National Catholics for Obama.

4. Beyonce and Jay-Z. They are a "power couple" who can sway the votes of people simply because they themselves are beautiful people with a new baby called Blue Ivy. (I pity that kid when she gets in school!) Not only are they part of the 1%, they are part of the one-tenth of 1% in this country. They host fundraisers that command $30,000 $40,000 per person to get in to mingle with Obama and them. And then liberals have the nerve to criticize Romney for having an elevator for his car. Rumor has it Jay-Z is a little miffed at the way B drools over O, so there may not be any more O fundraisers in the B-JZ household anytime soon!

5. Brad Pitt and George Clooney. There's more to life than a pretty face. At least Matt Damon has somewhat distanced himself from Obama. But only because Obama is not liberal enough.

6. Scar Jo, Natalie Portman, Jessica Alba, Ashley Judd, SJPKatie Perry, and Madonna. These prima donnas think we care who they want running their lives - namely, Obama. And they think all of us should also want the man of their wet dreams running our lives also. They claim to speak for all women, as if we are all Hollywood sluts who sleep around and have abortions when we slip up and forget our IUDs. They may be beautiful on the outside, but anyone who espouses the same beliefs (or lack of beliefs) as they is as sad a case as each of them is.

7. Bill Maher and David Letterman. Both of these men try to hind behind humor to spew their hate to America. When they get called on things that would get the normal working man fired, they assert that they are special and cannot be held liable for demeaning others, projecting venomous hatred, or criticizing people who have different views than they do. I could not care less if either or both of them were hit by a Mack truck on their way home from work this week. Just kidding.

8. Anything related to Planned Parenthood. This includes anyone who knowingly donates to them. I plan to expose their violations of the tax laws in the near future.

9. Anyone on CNN and MSNBC. Yuck. That's what I say when I skim past their channels on my TV.

10. David Axelrod. He's creepy. He looks like Meathead. Nuff said.

Please feel free to add your own list of Obama supporters with whom you would not want to associate.
