Playing Chicken Continues

The Chick-fil-A story goes on. A Hater got fired from his job for accusing Chick-fil-A employees of being and working for haters earlier this week. A conservative pundit argued that that was not right since the hostile CFO of a private company was only exercising his First Amendment right to free speech. I gave a lot of thought to what she said, then I pumped my fist in support of Vante for firing the hater-CFO. The reason I disagreed with Pundit Loesch is that this guy decided that he would berate an employee of a company to make his point and to make himself feel "purposeful," to use his descriptive terminology. So, his employer, a private company, fired him for his hateful actions, however purposeful it made him feel. His purpose did not suit his employer's needs. For those who say he was acting as a private citizen and was not acting in an official spokesperson for the company, I can point out that he is in a similar boat as Mr. Cathy, whose personal opinions were the reason he was demonized by the media and free-speech haters. So, what goes around comes around. C'est la vie!

And the hate goes on in California, where free-speech haters vandalized a Chick-fil-A building a few nights ago. Free speech? No, the haters do not even make that claim themselves. They simply say that if you hate, you have to be punished. Hmmmmm. Sounds like the text-book definition of bullying to me. Do they know that THEY are haters when they act like that? So logically they are inviting "punishment" upon themselves since they say haters should be punished. The haters are sad, pathetic losers.

It is NOT a matter of "free speech" when you destroy other people's private property. Spray painting messages on private property is not a matter of free speech. We all have the right to quiet enjoyment of our property. It is vandalism pure and simple. So, if you do the crime, you do the time.

On Friday August 3 there were supposed to be epic same-sex "kiss-ins" at all Chick-fil-As around the country, with crowds predicted in numbers that would surpass the Occupy movement in their breadth and impact. (Why they did not wait one day until the birthday of their idol, Obama, is beyond me.) How did the kiss-ins go? Let's just say that it is generous to say that the attempts at protest were the cluck heard in a far off corner of the chicken coop.  

And on Saturday there was more graffiti at a Chick-fil-A, from more loser-haters who did not have the fortitude to speak their minds in the light of day. And also the drive-through bully posted an apology where he tells Rachel, the Chick-fil-A employee he rudely berated, that he is sorry for the way he treated her. 

Chick-fil-A is closed on Sunday, in honor of the Lord's Day. Maybe the haters will take a day of rest also.

And in honor of the drive-through bully, remember, nobody is perfect!

"One Nation Under Socialism"

We hear people, especially politicians and atheists, talk about "separation of church and state." Both sides use this phrase to support their claims or positions. Did you know the U.S. Constitution does not use that phrase at all? Nope, it never says anything about "church" at all. The First Amendment contains two freedoms related to religion -- freedom OF religion and freedom FROM state-imposed religion. The current president is trashing the Constitution in so many respects, which is ironic since he taught "Con Law" to law school students. (Boy, I'd like to see what those students had to say to get an A!)

Today I came across an artist who blends religion and politics in his artwork. His latest painting is pretty imaginative. (See below) He says there are a lot of nuances or subtleties in the painting that he has not yet revealed. I notice there is no wedding ring. Go to http://www.mcnaughtonart.com/ and look for the "New Video" posting to hear the artist talk about the piece. The article that linked to McNaughton's art was a local D.C. CBS station. I was surprised they ran the story.

[UPDATE 3/27/2012: The artist has a You Tube video about the painting that is also powerful. And McNaughton has posted on his Facebook page that Sean Hannity bought the painting last night -- Sean just announced it on his radio show also.]

More irony in the artist's name is that the "McNaughton rule" is learned by all law students (criminal law) because it is the predecessor of the "insanity defense." It came about in the case of Daniel M'Naghten (often spelled McNaughton) almost 170 years ago when M'Naghten tried to kill the British Prime Minister but was acquitted because his lawyers claimed he was insane. There is no connection between the artist McNaughton and the M'Naghten of history. But we lawyers tend to make associations when we hear key phrases and names!
